Kate Upton was born in St. Joseph, Michigan and raised in Melbourne, Florida. She is that the female offspring of Shelley, a former Texas state lawn tennis champion, and Jeff Upton, a highschool athletics director. She attended Trinity Episcopal Academy. Her uncle was Representative of U.S. Fred Upton . Upton’s great-grandfather, town Upton, was co-founder of appliance manufacturer and merchandiser Whirlpool Corporation.
As a young equestrian, Upton showed at the yank Paint Horse Association and competed at a national level. along with her horse Roanie Pony, she won 3 APHA Reserve World Championships — thirteen and beneath Western Riding, thirteen and beneath skill, and 14–18 Western Riding. She was named the thirteen and beneath Reserve all-round Champion, giving her a complete of 4 reserve championships (2nd place). additionally, Upton all over up third overall on the APHA youth prime Twenty. With a second horse, Zipped, she won 14–18 Western Riding and was enclosed within the prime five in 14–18 skill and 14–18 Western Pleasure in 2009.
